Beauty Masterclass

The biggest secret I can share on how to achieve a minimal make up look, is always use a primer. It blurs imperfection on the skin, minimizes pores, softens fine lines, makes sure the make up stays in place all day long and gives a flawless finish. So ladies think of this as your secret weapon.

Avoid using heavy- texture foundations especially with black skin as it tends to be oilier. Alternatively use a foundation which is lightweight in texture and has a high pigment concentration. When it comes to choosing a foundation, always pick a colour that matches the majority of your face. Ladies if you want to adjust any discoloration use a lighter or darker concealer for the areas of your face that appears different. Remember to use a brush when applying foundation starting from the centre of the face working outwards, blending around the concealer and not over.

If you want to make your lips fuller use a lip liner to draw just outside your natural line. Likewise, if you want to make your lips appear less full, line them just inside the natural lip line with a darker lip pencil in a neutral tone. Finish your look with a peachy or nude colour gloss that will help to pick up the natural colour in your lips.

Never use an eye brow pencil which is darker than your brows as this can look too hard. Opt for a colour which is close to your brow colour. Remember your brows should start in line with the tip of the nose and finish at the outer corner of the eye. Eyeshadow colours with silvery undertones can be a bit harsh on black skin, so use colours which are warmer and have more golden tones for a more flattering look. For pale skin use shades with stonewash hints or cool undertones to help your skin glow.

Get An Instant Face Lift With Your Eyeliner

Who knew the humble eyeliner would be such a powerful tool. Yes ladies, this trusted make-up secret when done correctly will instantly knock of years without a knife in slight.

Top Tips

Level Lines

Getting both eyes to match can be tricky. Ladies ensure that your flicks are the same height by drawing a dot with a pencil eyeliner where you want the flick to end. Hold the pencil across your face and dot the other side level with the first.

Combat Wobbly Hands

If you can’t keep your shaky hands still, work in two halves. Make it easy by starting from the middle of the eye and flick out, then once satisfied join the inner corner to the middle. Press your liner right into your lash line; trust me you’ll start getting a smoother line every time.

Eye Wide Open

Ladies if you’re worried about your eyes looking too heavy and weighed down, add a touch of highlighter to the inner corners to brighten them up.

Eyeliner Don’ts

Downward slope – Anything sloping remotely downwards will make your eyes look droopy.

Too short – Never cut your line short it’ll only make your face look wider and puffy as a result.

Four colours used for the perfect smokey eye

  1. Gold by Mac called Retro Speck
  2. From the nude collection by Sleek the plain brown
  3. From the nude collection by sleek the metallic brown
  4. From the nude collection by Sleek the black

Smokey doesn’t have to be black, so swap using another colour. Purple enhances the eyes and leaves a softer finish. Why don’t you go from day smokey to night smokey in a flash by pressing a bit of glitter eye shadow in the middle of the lid and blending with your finger tips.

Smokey Purple Eye
Tip - Use your foundation brush to clear away any excess eye shadow dust which has fallen on your face.

- Luminaire concealer by sleek L04854
This shade is a little lighter than the foundation used.

Tip – Apply and leave to dry. Reason why, it would help to achieve the sculptured look as well as hinding away your tired eyes. Once dry use your finger tips to smooth the concealer out. You will begin to notice the focal point is on the eye make-up showing the intensity and not the bags under the eyes.

-Gel eye liner by Maybelline comes with a brush

Tip – Put enough on the brush so that you get a smooth finish. If it helps tilt your brush at an angle when applying the liner.

-Black mascara by Rimmel called ‘Day to Night’. The one used in the video is the night part. For a fuller look why not apply some false eye lashes to help your eyes pop.

-Black eye liner by Sleek

Tip – To avoid crying or poking your eye out gently pull your bottom lid down with your finger tips and apply the liner.

-To create the shadowing affect under the eye use the black eye shadow on the nude collection Sleek pallet. If you prefer you could spice things up and apply another colour of your choice.
- At this time smooth out the concealer under the eyes.
-Apply your blush on your cheeks, Mac Harmony. Try and apply under your concealer to help achieve your sculptured look. I find this makes your face look slimmer.
